Foreign trade liberalization of Armenia

Round table, December 2010, Yerevan

On December 22-23, a round table with David G. Tarr, consultant for DECTI, the World Bank, and Oleksandr Shepotylo, researcher in Kyiv Economic Institute (KEI) was organized in EDRC office. Specialists from EDRC, the Ministry of Economy, World Bank and an academic institution participated to the meeting.

Dr. Tarr presented a report “Deep Trade Policy Options for Armenia: The Importance of Services, Trade Facilitation and Standards Liberalization”, jointly prepared with Jesper Jensen, Teca Training, Denmark, based on a Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model assessing the impact on Armenia of a DCFTA with the EU. Oleksandr Shepotylo presented his report “Estimating Armenian export potential”, studying the implications of liberalization of the trade relationships between Armenia and other countries of the region, with the primary focus on the bilateral trade between Armenia and Turkey, and impact of improvement in trade facilitation measures in Armenia on its exports as a complimentary policy that can be implemented in addition to the liberalization of intraregional trade.
